This is going to be an interesting game in that the ACC team is going to want to slow down the game and beat Illinois up on the boards while the B1G wants to play fast and maximize possessions. Did they learn anything from Gardner Webb about dictating pace? Illinois' roster is unbalanced for what we want to do. We want to get up and down the floor to increase scoring opportunities, but we need our guards to rebound. The keys will be defensive rebounding and points off turnovers IMO. Dictating pace > 3 pt. percentage.

    Prediction:
    Illinois - 116
    GT - 37
OK117 argues for a week about whether a 79 point win is a "blow out" or "ass whoopin."

There are excellent seats available on the Fighting Illini website at face value. A and B Section. Please people, make the effort to sell this game out.

I'm gonna go with ass whoopin, but I don't have any data to support that opinion.

This should be the complete opposite of the last time we ran into a Brian Gregory coached team. Dayton ran us out of the gym in the loser tournament.

    Another prediction:
Headshot cross references all my posts in here and Scout for 2 hours to find a fallacy.

GT looked better than I thought they would be against St Mary's. I think it will be a closer game.

    67-62 Illini.

If Ditka is driving Da Bus, I am definitely going with Da Illini.

Thank you for that trip down Bad Memory Lane.

What I'd like to see tonight: 1) More drives to the rim on offense. 2) Better rebounding from the entire team-especially the bigs.

This is Tech's first appearance in Assembly Hall since the famous double OT game in '89 and the first time we've played them in the Challenge. Nice to see a well known program that we don't play very often.

If the ACC is dissolving GaTech would be just what the conference/BTN is looking for. Academics fit, expands into a new region, and gets into the Atlanta media market (

This is another tough game. This will be the 2nd best team we played this year season to date behind Butler, but better than Gardner Webb. Georgia Tech does not like to run, they are strictly a half court team. They play physical hard nose defense, but lack offensive fire power. They have held their own against solid competition in California and St. Mary's.

    Keys to Game.
    1) GET CROWD INVOLVED EARLY! How many times has coming out of the gate with a big early run help energize the team for the entire game. We didn't get that against Webb, but we need to against GT.
    2) LIMIT turnovers. This a sound defensive team and committing 15-20 turnovers will likely see us ending up in the loser's column.
    3) GET TRACY ABRAM's back on track.
    4) SHARE THE ROCK. I wanna see 15-20 team assists this game.
    5) PLAY HARD!

We do those things and we win going away, but it will not be a easy task folks...

    Illinois 70
    GTech 59

DJ Richardson will lead the Illini in scoring tonight... He is begging to rev up a bit...

I agree, we could do a lot worse than GaTech. Good engineering school with a decent history in both football and basketball.

Tech hasn't scored over 65 points in their last 4 games, and has recently won games by scores of 52-38 and 54-36. It'll be interesting to see which team can dictate tempo tonight.

Unfortunately, it is probably only a matter of time before-and I hesitate to say it since they are shooting so well right now-this IL team loses a game because they are over reliant on the three point shooting (which is something that hasn't changed over regimes). They need to have a plan b when the threes aren't falling. If they attack the basket (primarily this since the frontcourt isn't too good) when the threes don't fall and cram in to bigs for free throws, it would be great and this would save the game probably. But I fear that such an in game decision will not be forthcoming and IL will eventually lose for said reasons. Not necessarily tonight, but eventually, maybe Gonzaga. It seems the best teams always incorporate some sort of inside-outside offensive strategy. I love that they are playing loose ball and have no hesitation to score, but sometimes to be really good, you do have to make subtle mental adjustments in a game based on what is working and what isn't. A multi dimensional attack is best. I do love the new brand of D, it looks to really bother teams when it is working; so , hopefully if they aren't making threes, they can crank up that d as well.

I know this is Georgia Tech and they aren't a great team but Illinois HAS to play better then they did the other night...another complete no show and turnover clinic from Tracy could be a serious problem. Brandon has to take control and score, play at least as he did in the second half...As long as no serious duds are thrown up by key players I feel confident Tech won't score enough to win on the road, Assembly Hall actually showing a pulse of life tonight ( unlike Sunday) would be nice
