Job Summary: Conceptualize and direct comprehensive, integrated marketing/communication and public relations campaigns for internal and external audiences aimed at advancing the College mission, educating the public about College activities, recruiting and retaining students, and gaining community, legislative and donor/financial support. Lead College brand management including messaging, design and brand compliance across the institution. Oversee all institutional marketing channels including integrated awareness and lead-generating advertising campaigns, public and media relations campaigns, social media, inbound call center, multi-media productions, publications, the website and Intranet inbound call center, and other staffed and automated communication channels. Consult with students, alumni, administrators, faculty, staff and interested community members to constantly improve College marketing/communication activities and channels/tools. Provide consultation, advice and assistance in marketing and communications to College administrators, faculty and staff of all levels. Report to executive management, making recommendations regarding marketing/communication direction and activities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Initiate, direct, and track institutional marketing/communication research, strategic planning and tactical execution, including budget development and management, channel development and management, lead generation and enrollment tactics, College brand messaging, design and compliance, integrated marketing/communication campaign planning and implementation for internal and external audiences, publications, multi-media and materials development and production, and public and media relations.
  • Direct the flow of personnel and resources as required by project/program design, development and implementation of Communication, Marketing and Public Relations projects. Develop areas of agreements between all parties involved. Develop solutions to problems relating to projects and management. Hire, train, and supervise supporting personnel, including scheduling, delegating, coordinating and clarifying work. Ensure budget and other College resources are used efficiently and effectively.
  • Establish, communicate and monitor compliance with guidelines and processes that ensure institutional branding, quality control of marketing, communication activities and projects, and performance of department staff.
  • Provide marketing/communication consultation, advice and assistance to executive leadership and College departments to enhance the effectiveness of their marketing activities.
  • Manage vendor relationships for contract compliance and quality assurance.
  • Report to senior management, executives and governing boards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from a nationally accredited college or university in Marketing, Advertising, Business, and Administration or related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience in higher education administrative services environment are a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of direct full-time paid marketing/communication experience, with minimum five (5) years direct supervisory experience managing staff of marketing/communication professionals or service providers.
  • Minimum five (5) years of budgetary experience with annual budgets in excess of $500,000.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independent of direct supervision in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, balancing competing priorities and personalities ensuring brand delivery and compliance, pro-actively working with administrators, faculty and staff of all levels to develop and implement plans that continually improve quality and impact of SLCC marketing/communication activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication management, supervisory and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated research, analytic and budgetary skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independent of direct supervision in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of developing and tracking complex marketing/communications and public relations plans.
  • Experience balancing competing priorities and personalities, working with cross-functional teams of peers, managers, subordinates and vendors to implement marketing/communications plans.
  • Thorough understanding of content development for multiple audiences, as well as content management and quality control for multiple communication vehicles including publications, collateral materials and websites.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and within specified budget.
  • Strong supervisory skills including mentoring and training staff for success of activities, department, division and institution.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience using desktop/media publishing software such as Adobe In Design and Photoshop preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of materials and information.
  • Experience in higher education administrative environment preferred.
  • Understanding of, belief in and passion for the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Civility and urbanity are essentials attributes of the incumbent.
