Celebrated videogame composer Normand Corbeil passed away on January 25 as a result of pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed with the disease back in August 2012. He was just 56 years old.
Corbeil was best known for his work on Quantic Dream?s Heavy Rain, which led to numerous awards including Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition at the 14th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. In addition, Corbeil co-composed the soundtrack for Indigo Prophecy and had begun work on Quantic Dream?s next project, Beyond: Two Souls.
Quantic Dream released a statement on its website, noting that ?Normand [Corbeil] was not only one of the most talented composers of his generation; he was a formidable person, kind and humble.?
Heavy Rain may have been a divisive game, but the original score was appropriately hailed as one of 2010?s best and helped immerse the player in the remarkably emotional experience. Even those who did not play and/or enjoy the game should give the wonderful soundtrack a listen.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn?t have it any other way.
